Summer Slide
Year after year, we see the phenomenon knows as "summer slide"! I'm sure you know about it...it's the slow and casual breakdown of knowledge that happens over the summer when students aren't "using their brains" like they do in school! It's funny to joke about, but honestly, it's a real thing! The article attached outlines some startling statistics:http://www.summerlearning.org/?page=know_the_facts
So what's the solution? Enroll your students at the Tutoring Club of Jacksonville! Come in now for a diagnostic assessment, and then keep tutoring as part of your summer routine. Your student will keep and IMPROVE their skills over the summer and be ready to take on their new grade when school starts! We can also help with any summer packets and let you have fun with them while we focus on their learning (which is fun to us)!
Call now at 268-8556. We will tell you about our flexible packages that can cover every student in your household!

Spring Sports and Academics
Many schools are currently into Spring Sports, which is very exciting for students and athletes! As a matter of fact, Mandarin High School celebrated numerous sport teams at a pep rally this morning, including lacrosse, baseball, softball, and tennis, among others!Sometimes it becomes difficult for students to maintain the rigor of after school practices with the demands of their studies. And responsible coaches do hold athletes accountable for keeping up their grades in order to participate.
If you find yourself in this situation, the Tutoring Club of Jacksonville can help. Call us at 268-8556 to schedule a consultation! #tutoringclubjax #teamsideline #mandarinathletics
Loretto Elementary Wisdom Warriors participater in FLL and advance to State!
The Tutoring Club of Jacksonville is thrilled to read about a group of 4th and 5th graders from Loretto Elementary called the Wisdom Warriors!
What is STEM? The disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
What happens when you combine these things? You get a group of amazing students who accept the challenge of a robot game, a project, and FLL core values, and design a STEM solution to help people to learn to write cursive! They actually created a concept and 3D prototype of a pen that provides positive verbal feedback and encouragement to let you know if your cursive pen strokes are proper or not.
Unbelievable! Wisdom Warriors, Tutoring Club of Jacksonville applauds you! Great way to challenge yourselves and represent your school! #tutoringclubjax

The jury is still out on the new FSA
There have been many stories in the news the past couple of weeks about the new FSA (replacing FCAT).
Governor Rick Scott issued an Executive Order Tuesday to suspend the 11th grade Florida Standards Assessment English Language Arts exam. Governor Scott says he wants the test suspended until Florida lawmakers have an opportunity to consider new laws to eliminate the mandate. The elimination of the test follows an investigation conducted by Commissioner Pam Stewart recommending a reduction in the number tests Florida students in public school are required to take.
There have also been numerous reports about technical difficulties with the computerized testing, and large districts like Miami-Dade and Broward have elected to cancel their testing.
So what's going on? Tutoring Club of Jacksonville wants to know: what are your thoughts about the new FSA and testing of our students in general? #tutoringclubjax

Spring Break 2015 Ideas
Spring Break is fast approaching, the Tutoring Club of Jacksonville will be closed, and we have been looking for things to do with kids and teens in our community!
If the weather is nice and warm, an obvious choice is to have beach or river outings. We are so fortunate to live in a city that has these destinations for picnics, swimming, etc. and there are a number of beautiful parks to visit as well.
For more moderate weather, that may be a little too cool for the water, you can visit CattyShack, the Alligator Farm, or a tour in St. Augustine.
If the weather is cold or rainy, then indoor venues may be an option. Be on the lookout for matinee or special pricing at the movies, MOSH, or the Art Museum.
Of course, your family may be planning to go out of town for a little rest and relaxation together.
Whatever your plans, enjoy the time off. Encourage the older kids to take advantage of extra time to catch up on any assignments they are behind on, or know they have upcoming! It's much less stress to take care of things when you have a little extra time. #tutoringclubjax

Help for Hungry Students in Jacksonville
It breaks our heart to know that kids go hungry. It makes it even more painful when hunger has a negative impact on a student's education. At Tutoring Club of Jacksonville, we know how devastating this problem can be and we are helping to raise your awareness by familiarizing you with Heart Glu and their plans to help Jacksonville students.
A new, local non-profit, Heart Glu, put out this reminder today:
Today we kick-off National School Breakfast Week!! We wish all of our students who are testing, good luck! A nutritional breakfast exponentially boosts academic performance. 30% of Jacksonville Public School students will NOT get breakfast this week. We will change that!
Consider who you might be feeding.... a future leader, a Dr. who cures cancer..? Food for thought.
